Carbon footprint: measured, dated, verifiable.

When I say that my site is sober, I want to be able to prove it. Here is the method, the reference measured on June 4, 2026 and the way to check the current version yourself in two minutes. Not a slogan, just a dated measure.

Rating A+ on the Sustainable Web Design scale, i.e. approximately five times less than an average web page, estimated at around 0.36 g per visit (Website Carbon v4 reference). Measurement from June 4, 2026, on the home page, using the official Website Carbon Calculator method: real browser, network idle, without forced scrolling.

This value is a dated reference, prior to migration to Cloudflare Workers. The current version may produce a different result: the verification link below provides today's measurement.

How I measure it

I load the page in a real browser and I note the weight actually transferred on the network, Brotli compression included. It is this weight which determines the energy consumed during each visit: less data to transport means less energy spent by the data center, the network and the visitor's terminal.

I then convert this weight into grams of CO₂ with the model Sustainable Web Design v4, using the library CO2.js maintained by The Green Web Foundation. This is exactly the model that Website Carbon Calculator uses in its current version. It takes returning visitors and browser cache into account, to reflect a realistic visit rather than a worst-case scenario. The grade, from A+ to F, follows the official thresholds of the model: A+ corresponds to pages under 0.095g per visit.

I measure the home page because it receives the majority of traffic and is what a visitor spontaneously tests on Website Carbon Calculator. To remain comparable to a public test, I use the same method: normal loading, network idle, no forced scrolling.

Hosting and energy

Since the migration in late June 2026, kanaftchian.com has been served at the edge by Cloudflare Workers. Public monitoring by The Green Web Foundation lists the root domain kanaftchian.com as green via Cloudflare (vendor ID 779, result updated July 12, 2026).

The www subdomain may still display the old Hostinger attachment while the inventory is being refreshed. I therefore clearly distinguish the historical CO₂ measurement from the current hosting status, both of which can be verified below.

Check for yourself

I'm not asking you to take my word for it. Two independent tools allow you to recheck everything.

The limits of this measurement

Let's be clear about what these numbers are, and are not. This is a estimation by model, not an electricity bill to the nearest gram. The weight of a page varies depending on traffic, browser cache and the visitor's device.

A visit that scrolls the page for a long time and watches the presentation video consumes more than a quick visit to the first section. The published figure corresponds to the standard measurement used by public tools: normal loading, network idle, without forced scrolling. This is what a visitor will get if they test it themselves on Website Carbon Calculator on June 4, 2026. A visit that scrolls the entire page down to the footer consumes more; I do not hide this discrepancy, I simply publish the comparable reference and its date.

This value is dated June 4, 2026 and I remeasure it regularly, because a site evolves: new images, new articles, technical updates.

Why it matters to me

A lightweight site is not only more streamlined, it is also faster. Eco-design and performance move forward together: less data to load means less energy spent, but also a site that is displayed quickly, positioned better and navigated without friction.

This is exactly what I am trying to build: a professional showcase that respects visitors' time, data and planet. The low carbon badge is not a marketing argument tacked on after the fact, it is the direct consequence of the way the site is designed.
